What are all the files and directories in my home directory?

When you connect to the home directory of your account, you will see files and directories such as:

yourdomain-logs
yourdomain-anonftp
yourdomain-mail
yourdomain-secure
yourdomain-www
www

It is extremely important that DO NOT DELETE OR RENAME any of these directories. These directories are automatically setup by the system and required in order for your account to function.

The ONLY directory that you will be working with is the www directory. This is where you will place all of your files and where you will create any subdirectories, etc. If your files are not in the www directory, they will not be visible on the web.

Your main page needs to be named index.html or index.htm, otherwise anyone who types in your domain name will see a listing of all of the files in your account.

How do I upload my files to my account?

You will need to use a FTP Program or you can use our Site Creation Tool to upload your files.

FTP Information and Instructions can be found here.

Site Creation Tool Overview can be found here.

Can I create a custom "404 Not Found" error page?
Your first step is to create the HTML page you want to use as your error message and upload it to your www directory.

Next, create a text file and name it ".htaccess" and add the following line (the URL should point to your error page):

Next, upload the .htaccess text file to your www directory. Now whenever anyone tries to access a page that does not exist, they will see your customized error page.

How do I view my webpages once I upload them?

Once you have created and uploaded your webpages (Remember your main page must be named index.html or index.htm), you can view your main site by typing in any of the following in your web browser.

http://www.yourdomain.com/
www.yourdomain.com/
http://yourdomain.com/

To view a specific page, you would do add the page name at the end of the above commands. For Example:

The page you want to view is called mypage.html. You would then type in one of the following :

http://www.yourdomain.com/mypage.html
www.yourdomain.com/mypage.html
http://yourdomain.com/mypage.html

If you create a subdirectory named "mysub" and create pages in that subdirectory, you would type something like this:

http://www.yourdomain.com/mysub/mypage.html
www.yourdomain.com/mysub/mypage.html
http://yourdomain.com/mysub/mypage.html
